How does the identification process work?
A student is automatically referred for consideration if he/she scores 95% or higher on at least one category of CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) OR a parent, teacher, staff member, or student fills out a referral form (also found on our school website). CogAT is administered to ALL students in grades two and six.
Students in sixth grade will take the CogAt the week of Nov. 7th. Students in second grade will take the CogAT sometime in February (still waiting for confirmation on which week.)
Teachers and GT facilitator work together to collect sufficient data, including aptitude scores, achievement scores, norm-referenced teacher observation scales, work samples, parental feedback, and student interviews.
The GT Identification Committee reviews all data and work samples to make a decision. Identification requires a robust body of evidence. Once a student is identified as GT, he/she never loses that identification. There is no reevaluation process.
