Welcome: The purpose of this class is to view the world from a different perspective, using photography as your tool to create art. Become a creative risk taker as you learn photography techniques, digital editing skills and explore the possibilities! Be innovative with how you use these techniques in your artwork. Take as many photos as possible from as many different viewpoints as you can. What will spark your creativity and inspire you? How will your art communicate to the world?
Everyone has the ability to be creative, so even if you don't think you are an artist, I promise, you absolutely can be. Please keep your mind open and put forth your best effort, and I promise you will be successful in this class, but know you will also be challenged.
Course Description This course will cover the use of the Digital SLR camera controls, including f/stops, shutter speeds, film speeds and the production of a correct exposure. Skills will include composition, criticism, lighting, and image editing software. Students will also learn the history and invention of photography. Assignments will include creative use of the camera controls including depth of field and action motion, shadows and light, alternative camera angles, portraits, still life’s, and compositions based on the principles and elements of design. Students will receive basic instruction, demonstration, and see samples of the desired outcomes, They will be allowed to go outside and shoot assignments, based on what they are learning. Students will post their photography work and writing on Canvas.
Photoshop: Are you on Task? Pursue the best solutions for your assignment - don’t settle for mediocrity in your work. Get Experimental!! Photoshop is a huge program with a multitude of options for enhancing your photographs, investigate and try new things! Take your work to the next level.. Remember what this class is about. Use Photoshop to enhance your photos and bring out their best potential.
Take Creative Risks: Go explore beyond the walls of the school and your community. Get uncomfortable with your angles, take lots of photos! Don't be scared to get into this art form.
Written / Oral Photo Critiques: Students will also critique their own work and the work of their peers.
Teacher Expectations: Time and effort put into your projects, Interesting and creative ideas, Good technical quality, Participation and active engagement with the material discussed in class, Participation in critiques.
Classroom Decorum: Be careful with your words, think before you speak, take your time and listen. Respect yourself, your classmates, your educator and environment/community.
Attendance: is necessary: Several unexcused absences and/or tardies will result in the loss of work habits points. Leaving class for an extended period of time will result in an absence/tardy AND loss of work habits points. Please do not wander the halls or go get food.
Working on Photography related work: It is not acceptable to work on other classes work during this class.

Photo Shoots, Photo journals, being prepared for class, quizzes, participation in critiques or discussions, and more!
80% PROJECTS
Every two weeks you will have at least one project to turn in, each project is worth 50-100 points!
