Spot Color Project

What is spot color: Spot coloring uses the available colors in a scene and then composes the image so that one color stands out from the rest of the frame. Spot coloring is a technique that is used in-camera (done by the photographer or in photoshop). It works by placing a color against other colors that allow it to stand out in the composition.

1. Students to understand certain tools in Photoshop that allow you to create spot color photography like in the examples shown.

2. Students to recognize and apply use of the Element: Color & Space into their photography.

3. Students to recognize and apply use of the Principles: Emphasis & Contrast into their photography.

4. Proper presentation skills of students photography project.

Project 2

Experimentation Action Photography

Objectives:

1. To capture elements while they are in motion.

2. To have fun!

- Students will be uploading your best experimental action photograph that you took during class time this week. We will be dropping vegetables / fruit / and other objects into water all while trying to capture the action on film!

Project 3

Exploring {Line | Pattern | Texture | Light} in Photography

Objective:

1. To capture {Line, Pattern, Texture} while exploring photography in your surroundings.

2. Use Photoshop or Lightroom to emphasize elements of art in your photography.

Project 4

Animal Photography

Assignment Description: Pets / animals fill very quickly their place in our hearts and families and we enjoy having their pictures framed on our desk or wall! However taking pictures of your best friend is not always easy. Pets, unlike humans, do not understand what we are trying to do and won’t just pose for the camera! Here are 9 tips that will help you help you get the most of your photo session.

Objective:

1. Learn how to take a photograph by staging a scene using a pet or animal as your subject matter.2. Student reinforces learning of Photoshop techniques & tools they previously learned. (Using filters & adjustments)3. Student uses light, steady hand, patience, and experimentation to figure out how to capture an animal in a unique way.

Project 5

Double Exposure

Double exposure photography is a technique that layers two different exposures on a single image, combining two photographs into one. Double exposure creates a surreal feeling for your photos and the two photographs can work together to convey deep meaning or symbolism.

Gjon Mili

Gjon Mili is unique in the sense that although he didn't use multiple exposures to create his images, he was the inspiration for many photographers who became interested in double exposure photography after him.

Emotion in Photography

Lesson Description:

- There are many elements in photography that come together to make an image be considered “good”. Elements like lighting, the rule of thirds, lines, shapes, texture, patterns, color, and space all work well together to add interest and a great deal of composition in photographs.
- Three variables that matter the most in photography are simple: light, subject, and composition.
- One thing that makes a great photo is its ability to convey emotion. Emotion in a photograph, or any work of art, is what helps a viewer connect with a piece if that emotion is prevalent in the viewer. ... Emotion, or a feeling, is what can bring a snapshot out of obscurity and make it shine.

Posterizing Photography

Lesson Description:

Posterization is a process in photograph development which converts normal photographs into an image consisting of distinct, but flat, areas of different tones or colors. ... Printing posterization from black and white requires density separations, which one then prints on the same piece of paper to create the whole image.

Project 8

Reflective / Mirrored Photography

Lesson Description:

Reflection photography, also referred to as mirror photography, is when you use reflective surfaces to create an artistic echo of a scene. This type of photography can add an interesting spin to locations that are hotspots for photographers such as oceans, lakes, puddles, and even rain drops.
The wonderful thing about using reflections when taking photos is that they can completely alter the image from something fairly straightforward to something richer or abstract or otherwise more artistic. Using reflection in photography can lead to some amazing effects and beautiful images.

Black & White Landscape Photography

Description:

-A B&W photo is a monochrome photo. A black and white photograph is an image where all color has been removed (either in the digital process or through the choice of film). It consists of shades of gray tone that generally go from dark (black) to light (white).
Black and white images appear to be more timeless than color images. ... Removing color from a picture helps the viewer to focus on a subject's emotional state. Black and white portraiture lets the audience see the subject's face and read his or her eyes without distraction.
