Component C - Evidence
Policies and procedures are the foundation of a strong library. It not only guides unbiased weeding and purchasing decisions but it also protects libraries from book challenges and book selections made by librarians. Libraries are for everyone and therefore contain information that might not be to an individual's liking, however, access to information is essential in supporting diverse communities and relies on strong policies and procedures. The CVHS Library keeps a binder of our current, board approved, policies and procedures. At the start of each school year I print out any updated information so we have accurate information readily accessible.
As a library assistant I have regular trainings and meetings through the DLMC to keep me informed about projects, changes, reporting, and to hone skills imperative to the work. My last training (September 2024) went over book fees and replacement copies, as well as how to run specific reports. The DLMC offers regular meetings and trainings for library staff to keep us knowledgeable and proactive in our positions.
Over the summer I attended the HESTL EdCON to learn more about the HESTL certification and meet other Colorado librarians. It was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed meeting authors and connecting with vendors like SORA and Follett.

This is an example of a clean up project of our Classics section.
Often the "classics" have an old copyright date as the edition date in our database. I worked on a small project to update the edition dates to reflect accurately to improve our collection data.
