In January of 2024 I had the pleasure of joining the Castle View High School library team. Gretchen Stulock, teacher librarian, and Abbi Bay, library assistant, began their work in the library the year before and already outlined some important projects. Fresh out of my MLIS program, I was eager to jump in and contribute to these plans. We knew we wanted to do a much needed weeding project and build a relevant collection that supported student success through curriculum, pleasure reading, needs of students, and demographics of the area.
To begin this process I built an outline of our school demographics (population, ethnicities, issues specific to the school, etc.) as well as looked at the status of our collection, how it supports students, and where more funding would be needed. This became the starting point for our projects and the school outline would be applied to future grant writing projects.
I hope you enjoy seeing how I contribute to excellent librarianship through the management of our library!
