Wonders Curriculum for Literacy
Unit 1 (Aug. - Sep)Â Narrative nonfiction, realistic fiction texts and argumentative writing
Unit 2 (Oct. - Nov.) Folktales, expository texts and writing
Unit 3 (Nov. -Dec.) Realistic fiction reading and writing
Unit 4 (Jan. -Feb.) Biographies, poetry and dramas
Unit 5 (March - April) Historical fiction, expository text and research reports
Unit 6 (April - May) Expository texts, historical fiction reading and writing
Monthly - Independent Reading; students will complete a bimonthly independent reading activity.
Spelling/Vocabulary Curriculum
incorporated into the Wonders Curriculum
Pre/post tests allow for differentiation each week of spelling
students increase vocabulary knowledge and apply their learning in writing, reading, and across other subject areas
I-Ready Reading
Diagnostics (Fall, Winter, and Spring) help gather important data to specifically identify strengths and weaknesses in literacy content.
practice lessons are differentiated for students based on individual needs.
Students should pass two literacy lessons per week by Sunday evening.
