The DCSD GED Center will be closed March 16-20th for Spring Break!!
Ask if the student is getting their GED through DCSD or on their own?
Let them know that there is a pathway to pursue the GED through DCSD if they aren’t already aware, emphasize that DCSD covers the cost of all GED tests for students from DCSD.
If the parent says through DCSD, please ensure they have Andie Schabes’ phone number: 303-387-9675 and email: aschabes@dcsdk12.org
After this you do not need to do anything with the line of enrollment until you hear differently from Andie or Angela per the process outlined below.
STRONGLY recommend they refer to the Re-Engagement Team to guide through starting the GED process.
After a student has taken the 4 practice tests, then Andie will have Holly Withers (hawithers@dcsdk12.org) add a partial/secondary line of enrollment at DCSSC, “team GED” and notify the neighborhood school registrar.
Neighborhood school keeps the students in IC as primary LOE and puts in the HSED Placeholder.
HSED students will have a partial/secondary line of enrollment at DCSSC and only qualify for PART-TIME FUNDING.
When the student completes the HSED test, Andie Schabes will email the registrar so the code in IC can be changed to a “93 code”. Holly will end the partial/secondary line of enrollment.
When a student is an HSED completer, store their cumulative file as you would other graduates.
Put in “70 code: HSED Transfer” as their end status
It is important to note that if the student does not get their High School Equivalency (HiSET or GED) by the end of the calendar year, the HSED transfer will be counted as a dropout and updated to a "40 Code: Dropout/Withdrawal."
Please give them Luisa Flores' phone number: 303-921-6787 and email address: lflores1@dcsdk12.org to discuss their options (even if they complete the paperwork to withdraw, please give them her info for if they change their mind or cc her email).
Please do this BEFORE (or when) putting a “40 Code: Dropout/Withdrawal” as their end status.
Per EDOS, when 10 Day non-attendance letters are sent to students, the counselor or administrator should also be referring that student for Dropout Intervention, who will attempt to intervene prior to the student being withdrawn (if they haven’t previously been referred).
