The DCSD GED Center will be closed March 16-20th for Spring Break!!
If you identify that a student is appropriate to explore the GED, please complete the Re-Engagement Team Referral and our Re-Engagement Specialist for Dropout Intervention will be in touch about next steps and guide you and the student through beginning the process as outlined below.
Ensure that you and the student have discussed all other options, and have deemed the GED as the right direction as a last resort option.
If you're not sure, please refer to the Re-Engagement Specialist for Dropout Intervention to assist in discussing the options available to the student and creating a plan for next steps (303-921-6787, link to referral form here).

Students must be 17-years-old to take the GED test and MUST have a government issued ID (passport, Driver's License, Learner's permit).
If they are not 17, please refer to the Re-Engagement Specialist for Dropout Intervention to assist in discussing the options available to the student and creating a plan for next steps (303-921-6787, link to referral form here).
Students under 17 must stay in school UNTIL approved through the GED Age Waiver Process to pursue the GED, so it is very important to abide by the process.
Students without government-issued photo ID should be encouraged to start the process ASAP to get one.
GED = High School Equivalency Pathway. Students wanting to get their GED should have attended and obtained the overall high school knowledge necessary to complete high school.
The knowledge required includes but is not limited to: Algebra, Geometry, some Chemistry, some Physics and Language Arts.
If a student has not passed these classes, they may not be an ideal candidate for the GED.
This webpage is a great resource for understanding what skills are covered on the GED.
For those students with IEPs with approval to pursue the GED the following website walks through the process to apply for accommodations, including necessary documentation: GED Test Accommodations
Keep the student with an active line of enrollment (LOE).
Students should CONTINUE TO ATTEND THEIR CLASSES until they complete their GED Orientation Meeting.
Refer the student to the district Re-Engagement Specialist for Dropout Intervention:

Re-Engagement Specialist will guide the student to register with the GED Testing Service
Take 4 GED Ready tests in as test-like of an environment as possible.
16 year olds and students with IEPs should take the tests either with a proctor at school or at the Tutoring Center.
They will receive scores of “Likely to Pass,” “Too Close to Call,” or “Not Likely to Pass,” on each of the four subjects.
This will tell you whether they are ready to take the final GED Tests or if they need time to study and prepare.
See the "What Your Score Means" & "Practice Test Score Breakdown" tab above for more information.
If they score “Likely to Pass,” with 150 or higher, that means they are ready to test, they will be connected to the GED team to schedule their final tests.
Please review these guidelines about how to understand Practice Test Scores: Practice Test Score Breakdown
Whether a student needs time to study or is ready to test, they will be connected with the GED Team to schedule their GED Orientation. At the Orientation meeting they will create their testing and tutoring plan! This is individualized to each student.
Students should CONTINUE TO ATTEND THEIR CLASSES until they complete their GED Orientation Meeting.
Following the completion of the GED Ready Practice Tests and completion of their GED Orientation Meeting, ONLY REGISTRARS will add the HSED placeholder when advised by the GED Team to do so. The Student Assistance Department Registrar will then put in a partial/secondary Line of Enrollment until the student completes.
Students have access to free tutoring in any of the subjects (available in-person or virtually but BY APPOINTMENT ONLY).
Once the student has scored “Likely to Pass” on a final test and is ready to test, they will be scheduled to take a final GED test by the GED team.
DCSD GED Center covers the cost of all final GED tests for students who test at our testing center.
The GED may provide students the opportunity to test online, but we strongly recommend that students test in-person at our testing center so as to facilitate the best testing environment.
Students have completed their GED once they have passed all four GED tests.
When finished with all four tests, the student will be able to receive a diploma through Diploma Sender.
They are also eligible to participate in a graduation ceremony through the Douglas County Libraries.
They are offered access a Re-engagement Specialist from the Student Assistance Department for next steps/post-secondary planning.
