If you like asking questions, designing and experiment, testing, and collecting data, start with an experimental design project.
The key to a good and manageable investigation is to choose a topic of interest, then ask what is called a “testable question.”
1) Testable questions are those that can be answered through hands-on investigation.
2) The key difference between a general interest science question and a testable question is that testable questions are always about changing one thing to see what the effect is on another thing.
This document will help you get started with your experimental design project and can be used by all students, grades K-6th. It will provide you with a great checklist of items to include on your display board. It is also VERY important that you take a close look at the experimental design rubric for your grade level. Find the Spanish version of this document here.
The students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will not be judged on a rubric the day of the fair. They will have the opportunity to share their work and learning with a judge. These students should refer to the Project Guidelines document to help guide their process. All students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will receive a participation ribbon.
This is the Spanish version of the rubric that will be used for the Experimental Design projects. It is VERY important that you take a look at it BEFORE you begin working, WHILE you are working, and AFTER you are done working and preparing to share your work.
