MEET MS. LELO
MEET MS. LELO
Basics:
This is my 14th year in education and my 9th year teaching at Heritage. Before joining the Heritage community, I taught K–2 PE in a southwest suburb of Chicago. I also bring over 15 years of coaching experience, including 8th grade basketball, JV volleyball, and soccer at all levels—from elementary to varsity. Currently, I coach 6th grade track here at Heritage. One of the highlights of the year is our annual spring meet, “HEX,” which is easily one of my favorite days of the school year (second only to Field Day, of course 😊).
I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Heritage staff and community. The support and positivity here have been incredible year after year, and I can’t imagine teaching anywhere else.
Nine years ago, I made the move from Chicago to Colorado without knowing anyone—and it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made. I now live in Denver and remain a loyal Chicago sports fan (go Bears!—hoping this season brings fewer tears 🤞🏻). I love attending and watching sports, but I've also developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors. On weekends, you’ll often find me hiking, camping, or snowboarding in the mountains. I also enjoy landscape photography as a creative outlet.
My Childhood:
I grew up in Tinley Park, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago. From a young age, I was a very active child and participated in a variety of sports. These experiences played a significant role in shaping who I am today, helping me develop strong communication skills, a spirit of collaboration, and a deep sense of confidence. Together, these qualities have become a foundation in both my personal and professional life. It was also during this time that I discovered my passion for health and wellness—something that has continued to inspire me ever since!
My Education:
I earned my undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health Studies from Eastern Illinois University in 2009. Following graduation, I was recruited as a graduate assistant at EIU, where I taught Kindergarten PE for a year. In this role, I had the opportunity to mentor and evaluate undergraduate students as they observed and assisted in my classes. This experience deepened my passion for teaching and coaching while also allowing me to grow as a leader in the field. During that time, I also completed my master's degree in Sports Administration.
