SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Survey

WHAT IS THIS SURVEY? Because Heritage is embarking on the implementation of Social-Emotional Learning this year, we would like to collect anonymous data from parents about their perspectives on our students' social and emotional skills. You will receive this survey at least twice during the school year through your student's homeroom teacher. Please help us spread the word by encouraging other parents to participate!

Outdoor Education + King Soopers = DISCOUNTS!!!

It's time to start thinking about Outdoor Ed! I know the kids don't attend Outdoor Education until 6th grade, but in 5th grade, we have the chance to have King Soopers pay for part of the cost of this 6th grade trip. The most important part, for now, is that you have to make sure your card is registered for the new program and that you have a digital account. The instructions for this part are in the attached letter, so please read it carefully.

Next, please send your 5th grade student's name to outdoored@heexplorers.org. Then, every time you shop at King Soopers, you will be earning money that will reduce the cost of Outdoor Ed!

If you have any questions, just send them to the above email address and our parent coordinator will get back to you.

Happy Earning!

Technology

Students are allowed to bring cell phones to school. Their cell phones should be on silent or off and stored in their backpacks during the school day.

If a child has a wrist watch (FitBit, Apple Watch), please be aware that these can be quite distracting to students during the day. With this technology comes distractions. Students are allowed to wear these technology devices, however, PLEASE DO NOT TEXT your child during the day, their job is focus on their school work. Thank you!

You may also rent an instrument and purchase books, reeds, etc. for the year!

Classroom News

Reading

Our classrooms are working on our first reading genre! Fantasy novel studies are the best way to start out the year! We continue to work on coding text, analyzing characters, settings, and plot. We are also working on inferencing and predicting.

Math

We have finished Chapter 1 (Place Value through Thousandths). We are now working Chapter 2 (Multiply Whole Numbers).

Information regarding our new math fact fluency program (REFLEX) will come home soon!

Link to homework sheets (these can also be found on all of our personal websites)

Writing

  • We now have reviewed all of the thinking maps! We will begin our first narrative piece this week!

Social Studies

Our Social Studies explorer unit is wrapping up this week. The kids had a blast learning what it was like to be an explorer in the Exploration Era. Ask your child what events occurred within their group. Did they survive? In addition, students journaled each day during the long expedition. When they are sent home, be sure to read them!
