October is Anti-Bully Month

Every October, schools and organizations across the country join STOMP Out Bullying™ in observing National Bullying Prevention Month.

Statistics from the 2012 Indicators of School Crime and Safety Study show that an adult was notified in less than half (40%) of bullying incidents. Some signs that may point to a bullying problem are:

  • Unexplainable injuries
  • Lost or destroyed clothing, books, electronics, or jewelry
  • Frequent headaches or stomach aches, feeling sick or faking illness
  • Changes in eating habits, like suddenly skipping meals or binge eating. Kids may come home from school hungry because they did not eat lunch.
  • Difficulty sleeping or frequent nightmares
  • Declining grades, loss of interest in schoolwork, or not wanting to go to school
  • Sudden loss of friends or avoidance of social situations
  • Feelings of helplessness or decreased self esteem
  • Self-destructive behaviors such as running away from home, harming themselves, or talking about suicide

If you see signs that your student might be the victim of bullying, please talk to them. If that conversation uncovers a problem, please let your student's teacher know.

Absence Policy

When students get up to the upper grade levels, responsibility and accountability also increase!

It is important to help teach important life skills that even when we are absent, that we still must complete and catch up on work!

Make Up Work Policy

  • When a student is gone for 1 day, they will have 2 days to make up the work!
      • For example, if a child is absent on Monday and returns Tuesday, they will have until Thursday to turn in assignments.
  • When a student is gone for 2 days, they will have 4 days to make up the work!
  • Please realize that all assignments will not be able to be completed at home. Hands on in class activities and discussions are hard to make up! In addition, all quizzes and tests will also need to be made up at school.

If a child is absent for an extended amount of time, we ask that parents communicate with us often so that we can come up with a plan.

In addition, if you plan on taking a vacation while school is in session, we would love to put together their work before you go so that they can work on it when there is down time!

When your child is absent, the parent or your child can email their homeroom teacher. If you know that your child has a different math or novel teacher, please feel free to also include them in the email.

We would be happy to put together their work for you to pick up at the front office. Please make sure to communicate when you will be able to pick up the work and please make sure that these arrangements are made prior to coming to school.

Thank you!

Fund Run- THANK YOU

We wanted to say THANK YOU for your amazing donations that were given to our Heritage Fund Run this year. Our 5th graders WON the participation award with nearly 100% participation. We have a $600 innovation grant to spend that will impact our student learning in our grade level. Again, thank you for your amazing support!

Halloween Parties and Candy

Halloween Parties are on Thursday, October 31st from 8:45-9:45.

At 9:45, we will have an all school costume parade, weather permitting if we are able to go outside, if not we will be inside the gym.

If you do not want your child to participate, they do not need to come to school until 10:15 am and will be excused! In addition, please reiterate to your child to not bring candy for snack.

We do not mind students having a small treat with their lunch, but do not want them snacking on candy throughout the school day. Thank you!
