Classroom News
READING/WRITING
Fiction
- We continue to work on our realistic contemporary fiction novels! We will finish this genre in December.
- We continue to work on vocabulary and comprehension!
Nonfiction
- Students also will continue to have exposure to nonfiction text included in their Scholastic News, science, and social studies.
Writing
- Students are working on imaginative narratives. We are learning about the components of this type of narrative!
MATH
- Students are finishing up Chapter 5 (Adding and Subtraction Decimals).
- We are beginning Chapter 6 (Multiplying and Dividing Decimals).
- Each classroom is now doing Reflex. Reflex is a great way to study our math facts! Students need to earn 3 green circles each week. They can only earn one green circle each day. Set up a parent account to monitor your child's growth!
- Math Mates is a supplementary program that we use to help review old skills and to introduce new ones!
- Link to homework sheets (these can also be found on all of our personal websites)
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students have been learning about the early settlements of the 1600's and the challenges that colonial settlers faced. In the next three weeks, students will rotate between the 5th grade classrooms to learn about specific regions: New England colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies.
