Fund Run

Please remember that the Fund Run $$$ is due on October 4th!

Our students ran 8,018 laps or just over 800 miles! That’s like running to California! Great job Explorers! But we’re not done yet! We need your help to reach our goal of $25,000 to help fund important curriculum and staffing needs at our school.

If you’d like to contribute, we are accepting online donations or you can mail your donation to your favorite Heritage Explorer. We’re hoping to increase school participation in our fundraiser from 60% to closer to 100%! Can you help? All it takes is $5.00! And if we get 75% all school participation and $25,000 Mrs. Wolach will DYE HER HAIR!!! I’m trying to talk Mr. Shaw into dying his hair too! Stay tuned!

5th-grade goal is to be the grade with the most participation. To make that happen, every student needs to bring in at least $5.

If that happens, we will have a SPOOKTACULAR prize on Halloween.

Outdoor Education-

An IMPORTANT message from Becky Hensler (King Soopers PTO volunteer)

Next year, as 6th graders, our kids will have the opportunity to spend several days working on teamwork, skill exploration, and independence. This experience has traditionally cost around $300/student. However, Heritage is offering you a chance to have at least part of that bill paid for by King Soopers!

If you are a King Soopers shopper, you absolutely SHOULD be signed up for this! For every dollar you spend at King Soopers, they will give 5 cents to Heritage. We count your transactions from October 1st- June 30th. If you spend as little as $200/month on groceries, over the 9 months, you would reduce the cost of your Outdoor Ed bill by $90! Most of us spend WAY more than $200/month in groceries, and the more you spend, the more of the bill is paid for!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Becky Hensler (this year’s volunteer) at the email below, or via cell 513-702-1766. Let’s get earning!!!

Here are the steps that you need to take:

Sign up for a King Soopers digital account.

At the end of each quarter, I will send you an email asking for you to send a screen shot of the above page with the amount you earned.

Classroom News

READING

Fiction

  • We continue to work on fantasy novels!
  • We continue to work on vocabulary and comprehension!

Nonfiction

  • Students also will continue to have exposure to nonfiction text included in their Scholastic News science, and social studies.

MATH

    • We are now working Chapter 3 (Divide by One-Digit Divisor).
    • Each classroom is now doing Reflex. Reflex is a great way to study our math facts! Students need to earn 3 green circles each week. They can only earn one green circle each day.
    • Math Mates is a supplementary program that we use to help review old skills and to introduce new ones!
    • Link to homework sheets (these can also be found on all of our personal websites)

SCIENCE

We will begin our physical science unit next week!

Our science units will be a little different than the above link as our students are assessed in science on CMAS. For the next two years, students will be assessed on the old standards. As a building we are introducing the new concepts, but will also be reviewing the old standards so that students do not have any gaps moving forward.
