NCFE CACHE Level 1/2 Technical Award in Child Development and Care in the Early Years
There are nine different content areas relevant to child development and learning and delivered to students over the course of the two years using numerous different teaching and learning strategies. The knowledge and skills students learn in the content areas form the basis for the content in both assessments below.
The NCFE CACHE Level 2 course is graded at Level 1 Pass through to Level 2 distinction. This offers students the opportunity to gain the equivalent of 1 GCSE.
The qualification has 2 assessments externally-set by NCFE: one non-exam assessment (NEA) and one written examined assessment, both worth 50% of the overall qualification and will be taken in the Spring and Summer term of year 11.
There is a focus on expectations of skills and qualities required when working with children. Students will have the opportunity to experience different teaching and learning strategies that complement the delivery. Where possible, we use resources and materials to bring the content to life and classroom based lessons are supported with guest speakers and a visit to a local setting.
The course provides a basis for Level 3 Childcare & Education course at sixth form.
It is useful for students who wish to follow a career in child care, teaching and nursing, along with other child related occupations such as midwifery, paramedic, medicine, occupational therapy or social work.
Skills are also transferable to any other job that requires you to interact with the general public, applying literacy skills or that has a creative element to it such as art and design.
