Dear Student,
We both remember reading options booklets when we were your age, and feeling lost and confused. Some subjects we definitely wanted to pick and some we were unsure of. Whilst we may have had questionable career advice in school, you have world class advice. This advice is not only within this site, but you all have access to the Unifrog platform, a powerful online resource bank which may go some way to indicating which subjects will suit you best, not only for future careers but also for you as an individual.
This decision may feel like the most important you have made so far in your school life; please don’t make the mistake of some students before you who made these decisions based on their friendship group or indeed which teachers they had in year 9. Speak to your family, form tutor, your unifrog guidance and think about what you are going to find interesting, enjoyable but most of all achievable - allowing you to access the right learning journey at the end of year 11.
We are pleased that we will return to an in person options evening this year. During the evening you will receive an overview of the process and have an opportunity to hear from subjects on what to expect on the course. It is important during this event that you try to listen to all subjects, as there may be some you have not had the opportunity to study yet.
We wish you all the success for your continued journey here at DCHS
