At KS5 we have three courses on offer; OCR A Level PE, OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate and OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma. Further information on each course can be found below.

Entry Requirements

  • 5x Grade 4s or above at GCSE or equivalent

(with at least Grade 4 in English Language or English Literature and Maths.)
  • Grade 6 or above in GCSE PE

  • Must participate in sport outside of school.

How it's assessed

  • Written exam: 2 hours

  • 105 marks

  • 35% of A-level

  • Section B: multiple choice, short answer and extended writing (35 marks)

  • Section C: multiple choice, short answer and extended writing (35 marks)

Paper 2

Section A: Exercise physiology and biomechanics

Section B: Sport psychology

Section C: Sport and society and technology in sport

  • Written exam: 2 hours

  • 105 marks

  • 35% of A-level

Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport


What's assessed

Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity.

Plus:

written/verbal analysis of performance.

How it's assessed

  • Internal assessment, external moderation

  • 90 marks

  • 30% of A-level

Cambridge technical

Diploma - Sports Coaching

Equivalent to 2 A Levels

Extended Certificate

Equivalent to 1 A Level

Entry Requirements

  • Five Grade 4 or above GCSEs or equivalent to

  • Grade 4 or above in GCSE PE


Students who have not studied GCSE PE, but would like to take this course, will be considered on an individual basis.

Program of Course

Diploma

This is a two-year course made up of 720 guided learning hours.

You will study 11 units, 6 units in Year 12, and 5 in Year 13. There are 9 mandatory units and 2 optional. The Diploma provides a broad basis of study for the sport sector, but his focused towards a sports coaching route. The course can lead to Higher education as part of a program of study, which includes other vocational or general subjects such as other Cambridge Technicals, BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

What Topics Will I Be Studying?

In Year 12 you will study:

  • Unit 1 - Body Systems and the effects of physical activity

  • Unit 2 - Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership

  • Unit 4 - Working Safely in Sport, Exercise, Health and Leisure

  • Unit 5 - Performance analysis

  • Unit 13- Health and Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise


In Year 13 you will potentially study the following:

  • Unit 3 - Sports Organisation and Development (Compulsory)

  • Unit 17 - Sports injuries and rehabilitation

  • Unit 18 - Practical skills in sport and physical activities

  • Unit 8- Organising sports events

  • Unit 11 Physical activity for Specific Groups

Extended Certificate

Program of Course

This is a two-year course made up of 360 guided learning hours.

You will study 5 units, 2 units in Year 12, and 3 in Year 13. There are 3 mandatory units and 2 optional. The extended certificate provides a broad basis of study for the sport sector. The course can lead to Higher education as part of a program of study, which includes other vocational or general subjects such as other Cambridge Technicals, BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

In Year 12 you will study the following:
