Pebble Garden: Virtual Tour and Activity Guide

Pebble Garden: Virtual Tour and Activity Guide

Take a virtual tour of the Pebble Garden at Dumbarton Oaks. Students will explore the transformation of the historic garden and reflect on their personal growth using the self-directed student guide. To start, students will read and watch a short video about the garden before participating in writing and art activities including observing changes in the garden over time; drawing portraits of their past, present, and future selves; creating a life motto; writing a postcard to their future self; drawing a flower garden; and coloring in a botanical illustration.

Teachers can use the educator guide to facilitate this program for remote or in-classroom learning, which features a plant growing activity observing the stages from seed to flower and an art activity exploring watercolor techniques.

A synchronous virtual element (45 minutes) is offered by Dumbarton Oaks to engage students in object-based inquiry and enhance learning.  Dumbarton Oaks facilitators will provide a close-looking discussion of artworks inspired by nature from the collections. Please contact education@doaks.org for questions or assistance or to book the synchronous element conducted via Zoom.
