Year 1

The main focus in Y1 is on understanding number and being fluent applying this understanding to a range of situations. Fractions are often an area that can take longer to become confident using. The questions and websites below are also useful to try with your children.

Problem solving

A great way of becoming comfortable with number is to work with part-part-whole models. This way children become familiar with the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction.

Azim has ten lollies. He shares them with his friend. How many could each of them have?

Can you find all the different possibilities?
