In photography, you can consider graphical elements to be geometric shapes, forms or patterns. Often these elements are man-made or designed, however that doesn’t mean they can’t be found in the natural world.
In this exploration into training the eye to see, you’ll discover how to use classic elements of design; shape, form, line, colour, texture, pattern to create incredibly impactful photos, even from the most ordinary of subjects.

Training the eye to see is an ongoing practice that once your mind opens up to seeing compositions that have elements of design you will find that seeing becomes second nature to you.

Shelly Woodrow is generally known for her mixed media wearable artworks that radiate belonging and ritual. Her works transcend the ordinary and take the audience on a journey of memory time and place. She draws on nature and is inspired by form.

Woodrow is driven by a heightened sense of curiosity and creativity. She thinks as an artist and sees as an artist.
As a photographer she has captured a series of images that shows her commitment to observation. She believes having a keen eye is vital to an artist and has generously shared these images with us.
The images show her seeking out letters of the alphabet hidden around us.
