My doctoral research focused on the biophysical and biochemical characterization of protein misfolding and amyloid formation, particularly involving the protein gelsolin. The work investigated the structural stability, conformational transitions, and aggregation pathways of amyloidogenic proteins, which are relevant to neurodegenerative and systemic amyloidosis disorders. Using a combination of biochemical assays, spectroscopic techniques, and nanoparticle-based therapeutic interventions, the study explored strategies to modulate amyloid formation and reduce cytotoxicity. The research also examined the potential of small molecules and nanoparticle conjugates such as curcumin-loaded PLGA nanoparticles to inhibit pathological aggregation and toxicity.
