In any discipline, it is important to be in pace with the recent advancements and well versed with latest developments. Keeping in view the importance of research methodology, three life science departments: Biochemistry, Botany and Zoology of Deshbandhu College together under the aegis of IQAC and DBT Star College Scheme organized Four days Hand-on Workshop on Research Methodology from April 1-5, 2021 on a virtual platform. The workshop aimed at exploring the basic dimensions of research and get a deeper understanding of the area using a hands-on approach. The lectures, hand-on sessions and other activities undertaken during the four days of the workshop in nine engaging sessions witnessed participations of more than 200 intellects including faculty members, graduate/postgraduate students and researchers across the country.

The Inaugural session began with welcome address by Dr. Varsha Baweja, Teacher-in-charge, Department of Zoology and was presided over by our Principal, Prof. Rajiv Aggarwal and Chief Guest, Dr. Sanjeev K. Varshney, Scientific Officer, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Dr. Varshney outlined the opportunities for research at college level and scientific collaborative projects for better outcomes. He shared several government schemes to promote research and encouraged participants to avail these opportunities. The keynote speaker, Dr. MC Arunan, Senior Consultant, TIFR, Mumbai talked about enhancing the research experiences of the students by employing simple tools for experimentation in a collaborative environment. The session was concluded by Dr. Preeti Karwal, Teacher In-charge, Department of Biochemistry. The hands-on sessions organized on Day 2 and Day 3 on very relevant topics like Data Collection and Analysis, Statistical Tests of Significance, Scientific Writing and Communication and Referencing Tools by highly skilled resource persons were very well attended and applauded by the participants. The morning session of the final Day of the workshop, April 5, 2021 on the topic, Ethical issues, Patent filing and Intellectual Property Rights started with the welcome note by our esteemed Principal Sir, Dr. Rajiv Aggarwal for the keynote speaker, Dr. Bijay K. Sahu, Head, IPR, National Research Development Council, Govt. of India. Through his engaging talk, Dr. Sahu emphasized the important role of Intellectual Property rights in bridging the gap between the academia and Industry. He inspired the students towards the need for new inventions and innovations and motivated them to transform their innovations from mind to market and from Lab to land. On behalf of his organization, NRDC, Dr. Sahu generously offered full-fledged support to the participants to protect their IP that could be as patent, copyright, trademark and design.

The valedictory session of the workshop began with address by Dr Aditya Saxena, Coordinator, IQAC, Deshbandhu College in gracious presence of the honorable chief guest, Prof. Suman Kundu, Director, South Campus, University of Delhi. Prof. Kundu appreciated the efforts and congratulated the organizing committee on the successful completion of the workshop on research methodology. He emphasized the significance of performing research as an integral part of academics starting right at undergraduate level. He also acknowledged the interdisciplinary approach of the workshop in capacity building in accordance to the New Education Policy 2020. Following his address, Dr. Preeti Karwal thanked Prof. Kundu and invited Dr Indrakant K. Singh, Coordinator, Star College Scheme, Deshbandhu College, who described the establishment and importance of college DBT i4 Center, an instrument resource to support scientific research at college level. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Aparna Nautiyal, Teacher In-charge, Department of Botany. More than 200 participants attended and wholeheartedly appreciated all sessions of the workshops on Zoom platform. E-certificates were provided to all the participants, who attended all sessions and filled up the feedback forms provided during the sessions.
