Mathematics is the key that opens door to the sciences. No longer just the language of science, mathematics now contributes in direct and fundamental ways to business, finance, health, etc. For students, it opens doors to careers.   For citizens, it enables informed decisions. For nations, it provides knowledge of decision making to compete in a technological community.

The mission of the Department of Mathematics at Deshbandhu College is to provide an environment where students can learn and become competent users of mathematics and its applications. The Department of Mathematics has seen a remarkable growth over the years.   Today it is one of the most distinguished graduate and postgraduate departments in the University of Delhi. It boasts of an accomplished faculty of more than twenty learned mathematicians. Our faculty and students come together in a true community of scholars to advance knowledge, address social changes and pursue intellectual and personal fulfillment.

The  Department has been able to carve out a niche for itself by not only imparting theoretical knowledge of the subject but also by providing hands on practice through various mathematical software like MATHEMATICA, MATLAB, MAXIMA, OCTAVE, R, EXCEL etc. The Mathematics society "KSHITIJ" organizes workshops, conferences & lectures for the teachers as well as for the students. We also come together with our students in the domain of mathematical society that organizes its annual festival "SAMUCHYAM" to interact with the students of other colleges of University of Delhi in various events like Mathematical Quiz, Mathematical Rangoli, Mictionary, etc. We, at Deshbandhu College, are committed to the development of students as mathematical thinkers, enabling them to become lifelong learners, to continue to grow in their chosen professions & to function as productive citizens.
