Hello, DCS families!
The pride that I see every day from students, staff, and faculty tells me that there's something special going on here at DCS, and I am so excited to be a part of Panther Nation!
We started the school year with some fitness testing in grades K-5. We did half-mile (grades K-2) or 1-mile (grades 3-5) runs on the track behind the Town Office, we did the PACER test (think shuttle runs), and we did push-ups to see how many we can do without stopping. All of this information will provide a baseline of data that we can use throughout the year to set fitness goals and, hopefully, become better versions of ourselves.
In the coming months, we will work to improve physical and cardiovascular fitness and stamina. We are also playing lots of high-energy games, which are good for improving fitness and other important things, such as teamwork and cooperation, following rules, and building skills.
Our Pre-K'ers are working on moving their body with purpose, direction, and form. Walking, galloping, sliding, hopping, skipping, and running are focus areas. Working on these locomotors with your littles at home can be helpful -- and FUN!
Thanks for allowing me to work with your student(s)!
Truly yours,
Mr. Shea

Sneaker Library: First, let's start with footwear that is appropriate for PE -- sneakers and Crocs are ok! Boots, sandals, shoes (dress or casual), and slippers are not ok, for safety reasons.
I have a small sneaker library that students may access if they do not have the proper footwear on their "Gym Day", but many sizes are missing. If you have gently used sneakers sized anywhere from Little Kid 10-13, to Big Kid 13.5-3 and 3.5-7.5, please consider donating them! Just put them in a shopping bag and send them in with your students, or drop them off to the front office. Thanks so much!
