I make MESSES
I make MISTAKES
But deep inside
I got what it takes
I am an ARTIST!
what the kids are creating...
First of all, I want to thank you for such an awesome school year! I’ve absolutely loved working with all the students this year creating art and seeing them grow as artists and kids. I’m so proud of the growth from every student here and I truly hope they see it and are proud of it as well.
Keep an eye out for a paper bag portfolio full of amazing artwork coming home soon! I just took down all the artwork from the art show and will be handing out all the artwork to the kids to take home soon.
Kindergarten
The kindergarteners are finishing up the year strong with weaving! At the end of each year I do weaving with every grade but different lessons. The kindergarteners were rock stars when it came to learning how to weave! Because it can be a hard concept especially the first time, I usually have a lot of frustrated kindergarteners the first class with a lot of unfinished looms (which is what I expect) but they rocked weaving and so many of them almost finished their loom and not one student was frustrated and wanted to give up even if they didn’t get it. That is huge!! I’m so proud of their perseverance.
1st Grade
The first graders have just finished their watermelon weaving and some have even moved onto weaving with yarn on a loom because they loved it so much. They are cruising along and doing great!
2nd Grade
The second graders are weaving a blanket for their llama. They cut out a llama, wrapped the loom and started to weave, creating a little blanket for their llama. They are also adding pieces of ribbon and will be adding some pom poms at the end.
3rd Grade
The third graders just started weaving on a loom. Before that they made fingerprint self portraits of themselves. They got to learn about different fingerprints, take their own fingerprints and then they drew one of their own fingerprints and added things about themselves in it for a self portrait. They look amazing.
4th Grade
The fourth graders are weaving but in a circle. They are creating a radial weaving. First they painted a paper plate, wrapped the loom and then started to weave in a circle. It was a little difficult getting it started but then they got the hang of it and they love it.
5th Grade
The fifth graders all voted on weaving on a Y shaped branch. They were asked to bring in a branch but only three brought one in. I was able to bring some in but not for everyone. So half the class is weaving on a branch and the other half on a large loom. Weaving on a branch isn’t easy but those students rose to the challenge. The branches and looms are looking great!
