The main purpose of my inquiry project was to get American teachers to talk about Vietnam today. I wanted to gather resources and information so that the country would not longer be thought of as a country of war. The materials, below, can be used during and after the study of the Vietnam War. There are resources about about the World Heritage project (powerpoint, examples, project description, evaluation) on the World Heritage tab.
Here are additional poster/billboards for teachers to use in class.
Both of these posters were bought in Vietnam. There are reproductions from posters after the Christmas bombings. They are excellent primary sources to use in the classroom when discussing the Vietnam War.
The students I met were very helpful. Interviewing local residents was challenging due to the language barrier. The students were able to locate two residents that fought for the North Vietnamese during the war. The students interviewed the two individuals, edited their video and added English captions. They enjoyed capturing the oral history of their town.
For the past 15 years, my students have interviewed local veterans for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. As a school, we have submitted over 550 interviews to the project. I have included the link to the Libary of Congress' website along with my materials to teach the students to capture an interview.
