By accident I met a talented woman, Suzanne Lecht, who has an art gallery in Hanoi. She suggested I visit the Fine Arts Museum.
If you want to check out her art gallery, the website is:
"Fighting against Drought" Phung Van Pham, 1990
Lacquer work
Dao Van Can, 1958
Bronze
Nguyen Tan Cu, 1979
Woodcut
The museum contained works in lacquer, silk, bronze, and wood. Many different Buddhas and paintings of Ho Chi Minh and the war were found throughout the museum.
This was one of my favorite museums in Hanoi. I visited it several times during my trip.

Both of these watercolors are on poonah-paper and created by a local artist. I purchased them for $2.00
I made a great purchase with this DVD. From the inside cover: The streets of Hanoi are filled with thousands of rural women who come to the city to work as street vendors. Most of them come to the city not because they like the job but because they and their families are increasingly unable to survive on agriculture alone. 'Street Vendors: Their Voices ~ Their Stories' features some of these women. In it, they talk about their lives and their families, about their hopes and their dreams, and about the many difficulties they face as they try to balance their time between city and country. These are the voices and stories of women struggling to keep their families from getting left behind in the rapidly industrializing and urbanizing country of Vietnam.
I will share this DVD with the women's history teacher at my school.
The museum explains about the 53 different minority groups in Vietnam. It is a wonderful introduction to the country and explains its diverse population.
Puppets are an important part of many societies. The clip below is not mine but from youtube. It demonstrates the traditional Vietnamese Water Puppet show.
Images above show different military traps used to harm the enemy. In the museum most of the devices shown were used against the French during the war. However, many of the devices were probably used against the Americans too.
