Trek Sign Pics/how to
First, I made the sign in AI. I took the border from a sign I found on the internet then made the inside from scratch. I put my last name on the top of the sign, and put my favorite bike brand on the bottom of the number. The number 777 I got because it is the most unique number in my life and every time I forget it it always appears in my everyday life some how, whether I'm getting food or gas.
Second, I took the outline for my sign out of AI and exported it as a DXF into Fusion 360. This is where I extruded the sign to my desired look. I wanted the letters and numbers to pop out so I crated a 2D pocket to give it the effect the numbers are popping out and make it have some depth instead of being just flat.
Third, I took the extruded version of my sign and created the tool paths that would physicly cut the sign out of the stock wood. I used a 1/4th in bit first to clear out the majority of the wood out then had a 1/8th in bit come in and clean up around the edges and get where the 1/4 in bit couldnt.
Fourth, I created a post process with the tool paths I created and simulated the process to make sure the sign would print with no problems.
Why
I decided to make a number plate to put on either my wall or bike or have it be a piece of a wood bike I build in the future.
Also, I like to watch bike races and thought they looked cool so I'm going to make my own.
Challenges
A big challenge for me was painting the sign because I wanted to paint a camo on to it, but the amount of layers affected the tape, and the colors bled through and kind of ruined the design. I am going to try and hand paint the colors on.
