Fao was founded in 1945, it has been based in Rome since 1951 and is responsible for promoting a sustainable agricultural development and also in the fight against malnutrition in the world, especially in developing countries. The slogan is “Fiat Panis” and it’s a Latin expression that means “there is bread”. Fao has 195 members and works in over 130 countries.
Fao works in over 130 countries to defeat food insecurity and wants to reach the #ZeroHunger goal in 2030. #ZeroHunger is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording is: "End hunger, achieve food security, improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture"
What does the Organization do?
-Provides technical assistance to countries that require support in the development of their rural sector and in the formulation of national programs, policies, legislation and strategies for the reduction of hunger and malnutrition;
-Facilitates the dissemination of knowledge for agricultural development;
-Manages the world’s largest database on food and agriculture;
-Encourages collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve agriculture;
-Supports countries in preventing and mitigating risks to agriculture, food and nutrition, through the development of long-term policies that strengthen the ability of communities to adapt to crisis situations and emergencies.
