The Davidson College Physics Department and Society of Physics Students are dedicated to sharing the wonders of physics and astronomy with the community. We typically host two on-campus astronomy community engagements events each year. We can also be found collaborating with schools and other local organizations to bring public astronomy programming to the Davidson area.

Unfortunately, due to forecast cloudy and rainy conditions, we will need to cancel the stargazing portion of our Statewide Star Party event for the evening of April 25, 2026. We will still hold our activity fair indoors on the first floor of the Watson Science Building from 8 – 10 pm. We would love to see you at the event and share our activities! The Watson Science building is located near Concord Road, just east of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church. You can find more details about the location and parking on the map posted on our event website.
Come explore the wonders of astronomy and the night sky with your family and friends by joining us for the 2026 Statewide Star Party at Davidson College! As always, our events are FREE and open to the public.

Our Statewide Star Party event will begin with interactive exhibits and games on the Campus Lawn at 8:00 pm. As darkness falls, telescopes will be set up on the lawn, with stargazing beginning at 9:00 pm. Both the activities and stargazing will be available until 10:30 pm. Feel free to stay for the entire event or come and go at your convenience.

In the case of inclement weather, the exhibits and activities will be moved indoors to the first floor of the Watson Life Science Building. Due to the nature of astronomy, the stargazing session can only be held if the skies are clear. Updates to the event locations and/or schedule due to weather can be found on this website. Any changes on the date of the event will be highlighted appear at the top of the page. Please check back here before coming if the weather is questionable!

While we love all kinds of furry friends, we kindly ask that you leave all pets (except for licensed service animals) at home.

While friendly, leashed dogs are welcome on campus, we ask that you refrain from bringing your furry friend to our event unless they are a licensed service animal.
For visitors, on-campus parking is available in Baker Sports Complex off Baker Drive. Other public parking may be available on Main Street or Concord Road. Parking areas are labeled on the College's campus map.
