Remote Technology FAQs

What are the System Requirements for testing devices used by the students?

System Requirements are available via DRC's Readiness Check url. The Test Administrator should provide the student with the following link: https://www.drcedirect.com/all/eca-readiness-ui/ so they can easily check that their device meets the minimum requirements.

Does remote testing require any special software?

Student devices (PC, MAC, Chromebook and/or iPad) must meet the readiness check found at this link: https://www.drcedirect.com/all/eca-readiness-ui/

What type of device does a student need to test with LAS Links Online?

A PC, MAC, or a Chromebook. iPads may be used as long as a secondary device, that has a camera (ie cell phone), is available for the web meeting requirement.

Are students required to have a webcam?

Yes. Students are to be visually monitored by the Test Administrator at all times.

Does remote testing require the student to have two devices (a device for the web conference and a device for test access)?

Only when an iPad is utilized for testing.

What web meeting service do we need to have?

Web Conferencing Services such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Skype, GoToMeeting, Blackboard Collaborate, etc. Please be sure it meets the requirements provided in our guidance documents found at https://laslinks.com/remote-testing-2/

What should I do if the student is having technical difficulty with the test when remote testing?

If a student is having issues with the test, there could be something wrong with their setup which could be causing problems with testing. To test this, a user should have them do a device check to make sure everything is good to go. To do this, a user should provide the student with the following link: https://www.drcedirect.com/all/eca-readiness-ui/: The user will want to have the student click "Run Test".

If the student continues to have trouble, please refer to the Troubleshooting Guide found at https://laslinks.com/remote-testing-2/ for assistance.

Will remote testing work with the iOS platform?

As noted in the DRC INSIGHT Testing Device Requirements, certain iOS devices are supported; however, tablets phones, and mobile devices are not allowed as test devices for the full Remote Testing solution.

Can remote testing be done on a Mac not using Chrome?

Remote testing requires the Google Chrome browser, which can be installed on a Mac.

Why can’t students use their cell phones for remote testing?

LAS Links Online assessments are designed for a minimum screen size and a minimum resolution which cell phones do not meet. If a user attempts to log in to the LAS Links Online test, they will receive an error indicating that their device has not passed the System Readiness Check (a system check run by the application, prior to launching the test).

If I have trouble with, or questions about, my web meeting or video conference software, what do I do?

DRC is not able to provide support for web conference software. Reach out to your vendor for support.

What type of device does a student need to test with preLAS?

A student may test with any device as long as they have a webcam and microphone so they can communicate with the Test Administrator.
