Graduate Students

Amritha Anup

Ph.D. Student
Amritha is a first year Ph.D. student in the Thayer School of Engineering. She previously was a dual degree, receiving her BS and BE in biochemistry/biophysics from Amherst College and in biomedical engineering from Dartmouth, respectively. Amritha is originally from Rocky Hill, CT and is interested in regenerative medicine, improving patient care, and STEM education.

Peter Bertone, M.S.E

Ph.D. Candidate
Surgical Innovation Ph.D. Fellow
Peter is a 2nd year Ph.D. candidate in the Thayer School of Engineering. Originally born in the south of France, Peter lived there throughout his early childhood before moving to southern NH where he attended high school. Peter earned his BA in Physics from Colgate University, and went on to earn his MSE in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed his masters thesis in medical device design for Urogynecology applications. Peter is currently fascinated by the interface between implants and native tissue. He plans to explore how uniquely designed and fabricated tissue scaffolds can cooperate with human tissue and anatomical environments to improve current medical strategies. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, skiing, reading Stephen King novels and listening to music.

Adelaide Cagle

Ph.D. Candidate
Surgical Innovation Ph.D. Fellow
Adelaide is a 2nd year Ph.D. candidate studying tissue engineering in the Thayer School of Engineering. In 2022, Adelaide earned her BS degree in Biomedical Engineering from Binghamton University where she worked on soft matter mechanics research and co-founded the Watson Combat Robotics League. Her current research interests include musculoskeletal regeneration, dermal and epidermal engineering, and biomedical device implantation and biocompatibility. Outside of lab, Adelaide enjoys writing, hiking, and reading. She can also be found traveling (usually somewhere with a beach), and singing way too loud in the car.

Jewelia Durant

M.S. Student
Jewelia grew up near the NH seacoast and attended Plymouth State University for her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. She recently completed her third-year of medical school at Dartmouth. Jewelia is now completing an MS in Biomedical Engineering, before returning to the final year of her MD. Outside of school, she enjoys skiing, soccer, lacrosse and spending time with her family/friends and two dogs, Stella and Winston. Jewelia’s previous research experience was with the Molecular and Systems Biology Department at Dartmouth under the guidance of Dr. Yolanda Sanchez. Her work focused on targeted therapeutic development for the treatment of NF-1-deficient glioblastoma.

Eoin Hourihane

Research Assistant/
Thayer Undergraduate DD/BE Research Assistant
Eoin is currently an MEng student from Buffalo, NY,  who is pursuing both a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters in Engineering. He graduated from Dartmouth in the spring with a double major in Engineering Sciences and Philosophy. In the future, he hopes to work abroad in Germany before applying to an MD/PhD program.

Levi Olevsky

Ph.D. Student
Levi is currently a 2nd year Ph.D. candidate in the Thayer School of Engineering. He is originally from Brooklyn, New York and completed his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. Levi's interests include the intersection of the human body and mechanical engineering, especially 3D design and computational modeling/simulation. Outside of academics, Levi enjoys mentoring FIRST robotics teams and finding random ways to spend time with friends.
