Mr. Andrew Koziel is in his third year as the Director of Bands at Danville Local Schools. His teaching responsibilities include directing the 5th and 6th Grade Bands, Junior High Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, High School Concert Band, and directing the Blue Devil Band. Mr. Koziel discovered his passion for instrumental music as as student at Lakota West High School of West Chester, OH and went on to develop a passion for teaching at Ohio University of Athens, OH where he received his bachelor's degree in Music Education and a minor in Conducting. He was chosen as a winner of the Honors Student Conductor Competition and was named to the Dean's List for several semesters.
Mr. Koziel is also an experienced performer, having performed as a classical and jazz trumpeter across the state and country. He has been a quarter-finalist in the National Trumpet Competition multiple times and has performed extensively with the OU Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble I, Brass Quintet, Trumpet Ensemble, Choral Union, The Leading Tones, and The Heisey Wind Ensemble.
Mr. Koziel has previously been the Assistant Band Director at Western Brown High School in Mt. Orab, OH. He is an avid baseball and hockey fan and is the proud father of his son, Theodore. Mr. Koziel and his family reside in Danville, OH, where he teaches alongside his wife and Danville Choir and Music Director, Reagan Koziel.
Blue Devil Band Staff
Emilie Odu is a 2020 graduate of Danville High School. She participated in the band program, performing with the marching band, concert band, jazz band, and pep band. Her primary instrument is trumpet and she also plays the alto sax. Emilie is also a four year member of the Columbus Saints Drum and Bugle Corps.
Twirling Instructor
Alisha has been in the twirling world for 35 years. Alisha is married to Zach McCardel and together they have five children. Alisha twirled at East Knox High School for 5 years and went on to graduate from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a degree in business administration. Alisha is United State Twirling Association certified baton twirling instructor and Level 2 Judge. Alisha also serves has secretary for the Ohio Baton Twirling Council.
Alisha taught baton twirling at East Knox for 19 years, Jonathan Alder High School for 6 years, and assisted students from West Holmes, Loudonville, and Northmor. She also owns/ instructs Auxiliary Creations Twirlers in Knox County. Several of her students have gone on to twirl at Ashland University, Otterbein University, and Ohio Northern University. Many students have competed all over the USA including participating in the Pan Pacific International twirling championship!
