What is CAS ?
CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, Service. It is a mandatory element of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). It is aimed at students in grade 11 and 12 who will engage in a variety of school-planned and student-planned experiences throughout a year and a half. Students Service experiences will be recorded on their worksheet on ManageBac.
Why is CAS important ?
CAS is an essential part of the Diploma Program and is at the DP Core. With Theory of Learning (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE), CAS must be passed succesfully in order to obtain the IB Diploma.
What are the CAS requirements at Danube ?
Students must engage in 3 CAS Experiences per semester, for a total of 9 CAS experiences over grade 11 and 12. Each semester, students should create:
1 Creativity experience
1 Activity experience
1 Service experience
Students must have 3 CAS Interviews with the school CAS Coordinator over the course of the diploma program.
Interviews 1 and 2 take place in grade 11
Interview 3 takes place in grade 12
Students must plan and perform a CAS Project. The CAS Project must:
Be collaborative
Last at least one month
Have reflections on each of the 5 stages
IMPORTANT
Students must meet the 7 learning outcomes when finishing CAS.
Students can have an experience that fit two strands (e.g. Creativity and Service)
Students don't need to count their CAS hours. The IB doesn't need them anymore.
