Danielle's swim scheme

Danielle and her team of instructors have created a swim scheme designed specifically for deep water teaching.

We are very excited to introduce 'Danielle's swim scheme' to all our swimmers. We have taken into account the local area; the river along with its regular flooding, and taken the decision to add in personal survival skills from our first stages onwards. We also focus on technique rather than distance, which in turn encourages good practice as we work on stamina later on in the stages. All of the following stages also have a distance award attached to them.

Jellyfish

By the end of Jellyfish swimmers will have water confidence, an understanding of each stroke and will be learning the skills for treading water.

Distance Award: 5m independent swim in one armband

Starfish

By the end of Starfish swimmers will be able to swim independently, recognise each stroke, demonstrate and explain why we tread water.

Distance Award: 5m independent swim

Seahorse

By the end of Seahorse swimmers will be able to demonstrate each stroke, pick up an object from the bottom of the pool and perform a sitting dive.

Distance Award: 10m independent swim.

Octopus

By the end of Octopus swimmers will start to demonstrate further distances with correct stroke technique, tread water independently, perform kneeling dives.

Distance Award: 15m independent swim

Stingray

By the end of Stingray swimmers will have an understanding of water safety, build on their stamina whilst retaining their stroke technique and an introduction to personal survival skills with a straddle jump.

Distance Award: 25m independent swim

Dolphin

By the end of Dolphin swimmers will be able to demonstrate personal survival skills in clothes, perform greater distances with the introduction of tumble turns and refined stroke technique.

Distance Award: 50m independent swim

Hammerhead Shark

By the end of Hammerhead Shark swimmers will be completing further personal survival skills, further distances and stamina skills.

Distance Award: 100m independent swim

Orca

By the end of Orca swimmers will be ready to join a Swimming Club, or join a Rookie Lifeguard Club.

Distance Award: 200m independent swim

Inclusive Awards

As all of our swimmers follow the same scheme, we can offer 'I can' awards based on progress to celebrate individual needs and achievements.
