Tips and Tricks

Before the Show:

  • Buy an extra pair of tights.
    • We know that things happen at the last minute, whether it is a rip or a hole! If you have a back-up pair then there are no fears. Remember: all performance tights must be Revolution brand.
    • You can buy any extra pairs of tights at www.shopnimbly.com/dancewithoutlimits!
  • Make sure your student is well-fed before the show begins.
  • Take your student to the restroom before the show starts.
  • Order your tickets in advance. Tickets are more expensive at the door, and you save yourself the headache of standing in line at the box office.
  • Put your student's name in EVERYTHING. (Costume, tights, headpieces, everything.)
  • And, read your Recital Handbook.
  • Finally, ask us all the questions you can possibly think of! We have got the answer! And if we don't, we will find out!

Hair and Make-up:

  • Watch this bun making tutorial. It will make life so much easier.
  • Tight, neat buns are required for all ballet classes.
  • Bring extra hairspray and bobby pins. You can never have enough bobby pins, we promise.
  • Make-up is not a requirement, but you may want to consider using some makeup, as our dancers are under very bright stage lights when they perform. Stage lighting tends to wash out anyone standing under them.
  • If you would like a beginning stage makeup kit, these are available to order through our Nimbly site at www.shopnimbly.com/dancewithoutlimits under the Accessories tab.
  • Ask questions, we are absolutely here to help.

During Recital:

  • Make sure your dancer does not wear underwear under their tights. We don't want to see My Little Pony underwear poking out under a tutu!
  • Stay for the finale. We always have a surprise or two up our sleeves. :)
  • Don't forget that there are staff and helpers around during recital - ask questions! They're easy to spot as they'll be in DWL tees.

Costume Care:

  • When washing your costumes, please ensure they are washed in cold water only on a gentle cycle, preferably using a lingerie wash-bag to ensure that they are not damaged.
  • Costumes should not be tumble-dried, and take care not to over-expose them to direct sunlight.
  • Any costumes with sequins or embellishments must be hand washed in cold water.
  • Cool tip! If your student's costume has a tutu, you can hang it upside down for maximum fluff!
