Eligibility Criteria for Student Induction
Induction into the NHSDA is an honor earned through dedication, achievement, and service within the dance community.
Junior Chapter Induction (Grades 6–8): Requires the accumulation of 15 points
Secondary Chapter Induction (Grades 9–12): Requires the accumulation of 30 points
Points are awarded for participation in a variety of dance-related activities, including classes, rehearsals, performances, research projects, workshops, and community service. In addition, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Students are responsible for tracking their points and submitting a completed NHSDA Points Worksheet to the Chapter Sponsor. For activities completed outside of chapter programs, students must provide verification (such as playbills, registration confirmations, photos, or other approved documentation). The Chapter Sponsor will maintain official records of all points earned.
In addition to meeting point and GPA requirements, students must consistently demonstrate collaborative teamwork, motivation, leadership, and a positive attitude in all aspects of dance—whether through choreography, performance, mentoring, or production work.
GPA Requirement
To qualify for NHSDA Induction, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8.
Students are required to submit a copy of their report card to the Chapter Sponsor as verification of their GPA.
For homeschooled students:
If grades are based on a 100-point system, each point is equivalent to 0.04 on the 4.0 GPA scale (for example, a score of 80 out of 100 equals a GPA of 3.2).
If grades are not based on a point system, a GPA may be established through an official letter from the parent to the Chapter Sponsor confirming that the student has achieved academic excellence.
NHSDA Induction is a lifetime recognition, and once earned, the designation remains with the student’s academic record.
If a student’s GPA later falls below the chapter’s minimum requirement, there is no penalty or revocation of their induction. Instead, the Chapter Sponsor or faculty advisor will work with the student to help them regain academic standing.
At the Chapter Sponsor’s discretion, an inducted student may be temporarily restricted from chapter activities—including participation in ceremonies or wearing NHSDA cords at graduation—if concerns arise regarding conduct, safety, or behavior that could compromise the integrity of the NHSDA or the well-being of others.

These awards celebrate students’ dedication, leadership, and excellence in both dance and academics.
Applying for Induction and Maintaining Active NHSDA Membership
Students are responsible for documenting all activities that earn points toward NHSDA induction. Points can be tracked using the Point Tracking Worksheet (available HERE), or via an alternative method such as a spreadsheet, portfolio, or online system. All documentation must be submitted to the Chapter Sponsor by the specified deadline.
To apply for induction, students will use the Student Application page:
Create an account, entering their name exactly as it should appear on certificates, including correct spelling and capitalization.
Search for their NHSDA chapter.
Enter their graduation date.
Upload supporting documents, such as the Point Tracking Worksheet and transcript, to allow the Chapter Sponsor to easily review points and academic eligibility.
By actively tracking and submitting their points, students remain engaged and in good standing within the NHSDA chapter.
