Preparing our young people for the world of tomorrow means equipping them with the knowledge and skills today that they will need to succeed in the workforce. To do that, we need to update our goals for learning—and that’s really what all standards are. They are a set of learning goals that work grade-by-grade, step-by-step toward what modern careers and colleges expect, so that when students graduate, they are ready for college, ready for work—ready for life. See the list below which explains the standards FP use for each academic discipline:

• Science: The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)

• Social Studies: American Education Reaches Out (AERO) Standards

• SHAPE standards are used in Physical Education

• National Arts Standards is used in the Visual and Performing Arts

• ISTE standards are used in Informational Technology

Standards and benchmarks define what students understand as well as what students do, to demonstrate understandings. These documents provide focused and specific progressions of understandings, content knowledge and skills that lead to college and career readiness.
