My response time may be slow because teaching 350+ students between all of my 7th grade general music classes/choir/musical creates traffic jams in my inbox! If you don’t hear back from me within a week, please reach out again. I try not to lose track of my emails, but it happens, especially in performance seasons! If you are emailing me with a question that can be answered by a friend, see if you can problem solve and find the answer together.
If you email me a question that I address in a mass group email, I might not respond to the individual email for efficiency.
Yes, Choir is a full-year class. 😆
The deadline is Friday, August 29th.
Yes, you can do it all! I have had so many students in the program that are involved in 3+ activities. I was once that student, and loved that I could pursue my passions as an athlete and a musician. The time commitment for Choir is only about 1.5 hours in a 6-day cycle.
Voicing Week happens from 8/25-8/29. I listen to every singer and assign voice parts. The process of voicing is different from what you may have experienced in the past. I will listen for your range and place you in the Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Baritone section. This is how I form your sectional group.
Absolutely! You have to audition every year. It is just like sports!
No, you will not sing alone in front of your classmates. You will sing with other students or with me in rehearsals and sectionals. However, if you choose to do the closed Concert Choir audition, you will sing alone in front of me.
Check the Sectional Schedule. 😃 There is a copy on the board outside my room, the link is on my website, it is posted on Google Classroom, and I pin the link in every weekly student email.
NO! Wildcat rehearsals are part of the course. Every singer's presence is crucial to the success of the group and attendance is graded.
No. You can't make up a choir rehearsal. Part of what makes a choir rehearsal, a choir rehearsal, is singing TOGETHER. All 200+ students. We are only as strong as our weakest link, and the importance of attendance and rehearsal skills are stressed every day. A rehearsal is not like an assignment that you can submit late on Google Classroom. You have to be present.
Of course, if a student is absent from school that day, they are not penalized.
Yes, you can take it with you! However, you will return all music and the folder at the end of the season/school year. If you lose the folder, it is usually around $40 to replace.
No. You don't need tickets for choir, orchestra, and band performances on the secondary campus. Bring the whole family and your friends!
No way! Bring the whole family. 😁
