Principal Welcome

Welcome to York Township Elementary!  We are so excited to reconnect with our returning students, and would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new families joining the YT community this year!

One of those new, smiling faces is Ms. Rachel Jones, who will be serving as our Assistant Principal.  Ms. Jones is originally from the Harrisburg area and has been in elementary education for 8 years…6 years as a 3rd grade teacher, and 2 as an Assistant Principal. Ms. Jones received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees of education from California University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and dog, Louie.

Our staff have been hard at work getting the classrooms ready for our students, and we cannot wait to see their smiling faces come through the door.  At York Township we focus on inspiring our students to Be Respectful by treating others they want to be treated, Be Responsible by doing what they are supposed to do the first time, and Be Safe by making good choices for themselves and others.  Through our balanced instructional approach focused on developing the whole child, our students grow through an intentional combination of challenging academic rigor and supportive social-emotional learning.

The entire staff at York Township Elementary are devoted to ensuring each student is challenged and supported to reach his or her greatest potential in a loving, fun-filled environment.  Thank you for partnering with us by engaging in your child’s educational experience and communicating with your child’s teacher throughout the school year.  We are confident that you will find the 2022-2023 school year to be filled with engaging learning opportunities, exciting challenges, and exhilarating experiences.

Please feel welcome to contact me or any of the York Township staff at any time.  We look forward to an incredible school year!

Sincerely,

Marcus Bouchillon Rachel Jones

Student Handbook

Our Student Handbook has gone electronic.  You can view all important information at any time throughout the school year.  Please make sure you read the handbook and complete the parent sign-off in Skyward.

Car Rider Information

Arrival and dismissal for all car riders and daycare van riders will occur along the full length of the sidewalk in front of the school. Please find the map demonstrating the traffic pattern attached.

Please remember that for your child to be picked up as a car rider in the afternoon, we require a note, email, or phone call to the teacher/office from a parent/legal guardian only. We will not accept your student informing us of their car rider status.

Each family of car riders will be assigned a unique number.  Your family number will be located on two car rider tags to be displayed in your vehicle(s). Your child(ren) will also receive a number tag that will be attached to their backpack. Please note, that car rider numbers are only needed for dismissal. They are not necessary during AM drop-off.

Please consider signing up for a car rider number, even if you only plan to pick up your child on rare occasions.  To sign up for a number, please complete the Google form linked here by Sunday, August 20.

At arrival time (8:30-8:50 AM), please follow the traffic pattern identified on the map, and pull up as far as possible along the front sidewalk.  Students must remain in their vehicles until a staff member is present, and the student’s vehicle is safely aligned with the front sidewalk.

At dismissal time (3:25-3:35 PM), please follow the traffic pattern identified on the map, be sure your car rider number is visible, and remain in your car. Please pull up as far as possible along the front sidewalk.  Upon seeing your car rider tag number, a staff member will call your child to be brought to your vehicle from inside the building.  For safety purposes, please note that all students will be entering vehicles from the passenger side.

Please share this information with anyone else who may pick up your child.  As long as the individual has the car rider number tag provided to you, they will be permitted to pick up your student from the car rider line.

The safety and well-being of your children is our top priority.  It is imperative that all vehicles follow this established traffic pattern at all times. Ensuring students remain in their vehicles until a staff member is present on the sidewalk will be a point of emphasis this year. Even if the time is 8:30 AM, students are not permitted to exit the vehicle and approach the building without a staff member present. Thank you for complying with these directions to keep all students safe and the arrival/dismissal process as efficient as possible.

Please feel welcome to contact our office with any questions.

Choose Love

Our school, along with the other K-3 buildings in the district, will be incorporating fun, engaging, Learning Through Play activities and a program called Choose Love for Schools which plays an important role in promoting students' social and emotional well-being, and academic and personal success. It also enhances our classroom and school climate, making it a place where students are safe, compassionate, connected, and able to thrive.

The Choose Love for Schools Program is a comprehensive curriculum that supports, nurtures, and fosters the whole child. Students will learn skills and tools they will use throughout their lives, to be honest, trustworthy, caring and compassionate, self-disciplined, intellectually curious, fair, and respectful.

Students learn how to thoughtfully respond by choosing love. The program’s foundation is a formula: Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action = Choosing Love. We use courage daily to choose love over fear. Practicing gratitude helps us focus on what we have. Forgiveness is the key to healthy relationships and compassion in action helps us connect with and help others.

We hope you will share in this journey with your children, asking questions about what they have learned and enjoying the benefits of the program as well. Please check out the Choose Love At Home Program for families and caregivers. You can learn alongside your children and incorporate these skills and tools to promote Social and Emotional Learning in your home, and even within yourself! www.chooselovemovement.org.

Our first school-wide Learning Through Play/Choose Love Day will be on September 2. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the building principal for more information.
