Mission/ Goals of the Department
Vision
The Visual and Performing Arts department’s goals are to be supportive, visible, and accessible to the teaching and learning community of Samuell High School so that our students are empowered to engage and excel in Visual and Performing Arts courses.
Department Goals
The Visual and Performing Arts Department will plan, coordinate, and implement programs in visual arts, dance, music and theatre in order to ensure all students meet or exceed state requirements.
Working as a team, we will collaborate with parents, administrators, and campus teachers to empower our students and provide opportunities for them to engage and excel in the visual and performing arts.

Bio: Ms. Mary Ruvolo, originally from New York was the youngest and only girl of five children. Surrounded by music, dance, and the arts, she found her passion for theatre. Ms. Ruvolo has appeared on Broadway and with the national touring companies of Tommy Tune’s Grease and Radio City Entertainment’s The Wizard of Oz starring Mickey Rooney and Eartha Kitt. She also performed for seven seasons in The Radio City Christmas Spectacular and with many stock and regional theater companies. Ms. Ruvolo sang on the original 1998 cast recording of The Wizard of Oz and was an off-screen vocalist for Disney’s, Mission To Mars. Holding a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University and a Masters Degree in Childhood Education from The College of Saint Rose, Ms. Ruvolo brought her vast stage experience into the classroom. She worked as Theatre Teacher and Technical Director at Poughkeepsie Day School in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the Director of Theatre for The Mandell School in NYC, where she developed and taught the theatre program. She was a Director, Drama Advisor, Choreographer, and Enrichment Educator for Spackenkill High School, Marlboro Central School District, and a Teaching Artist for The Dutchess Arts Camp in the Hudson Valley, NY. Ms. Ruvolo has written and directed many enriching student-inspired productions.
