DEFINITION, RATIONALE, AND ASSUMPTIONS
Definition
The Conrad High School Counseling program in collaboration with campus administration, faculty, students, parents and community members will provide a comprehensive school counseling program creating a school community where all children feel supported, respected and encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.
Rationale
Conrad school counselors believe that all students are entitled to an equitable comprehensive school counseling program. The counseling program promotes social/emotional and academic development in order to support students as they become global citizens in a competitive society. Student needs are identified and we address student development in the areas of health and safety, interpersonal effectiveness, intrapersonal effectiveness, post-secondary planning and career development.
Assumptions
The comprehensive counseling program of Conrad High School is based on the following assumptions.
All counselors are certified and have been trained to implement the four components of a comprehensive school counseling program (guidance, responsive services, individual planning, and system support).
The counseling team will use data from needs assessments, attendance, and achievement data to drive the counseling program goals and initiatives.
All students, parents, staff, and stakeholders will have equal access to the program.
Parents are an integral part of their child's education and their involvement is essential.
Campus administration support and understand the programs, priorities and demands of the counseling program.
Counselors will be provided the resources and supplies necessary to ensure the needs of the program are met.
DEVELOPING PROGRAM GOALS
Program Goal Development
The Conrad Counseling program reviews data collected from various sources including not but not limited to needs assessment, attendance, grades, discipline, post-secondary data, and other reports/data provided from administration and distrtic personnel. The data is used to identify trends and to develop SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Based) goals for the counseling program.
2022-2023 NEEDS ASSESSMENTS
One example of a student needs assessment utilized is our "Minute Meetings" we have with each student at the beginning of the school year. The results of this survey help counselors identify students who need an immediate touch point from their counselor as well as identifying students for possible individual and group counseling. We also use surveys for parents and staff members to identify and guide priorities for our counseling program.
Student Needs Assessment Example
EVALUATING OUR PROGRAM
During the 2022-2023 school year counselors assessed students, teachers, administrators, and parents to determine effectiveness of the program. Our mid year Counseling Advisory Committee (CAC) served as a time to review feedback and make appropriate adjustments for the spring semester. The EOY CAC meeting was an opportunity for us to share areas of glows and grows from the year. The data was used to help guide the counseling program for the upcoming school year.
