Cellular Device Collection Procedure 2025 - 2026
House Bill 1481 requires all schools to implement a policy that either prohibits cellular devices on campus or provides a secure method for storing them during the instructional day. Additionally, the bill mandates consequences for violations of the policy.
To ensure compliance and maintain a safe and distraction-free learning environment, all students will be required to follow the cellular device protocol outlined below:
Cell Phone Storage Protocol
Morning Collection
Upon entering their homeroom classroom, students will turn in their cellular devices to their homeroom teacher. (phones, smart watches, air pods, etc.)
Devices must be powered off before being submitted.
Labeling and Pouching
Each device will be placed in an individual plastic pouch labeled with the student’s name and ID number.
Secure Storage
Labeled pouches will be placed in a storage pouch.
The storage pouch will be secured and locked in a cabinet or designated locked storage area within the classroom.
Class Transitions
If students transition to other classes, homeroom teachers will exchange storage tubs with their partner teachers.
The partner teacher will continue to store the devices securely during class periods.
End-of-Day Distribution
At dismissal, homeroom teachers (or designated partner teachers) will distribute the devices back to students.
Important Notes
Students are expected to fully comply with this procedure daily.
Any attempt to bypass or violate the policy (e.g., concealing a phone or refusing to turn it in, etc.) will result in disciplinary consequences as outlined in the student code of conduct.
