Core Lab is designed for sophomores with two or more failures in graduation required courses of Math, Science, and English. It is for students who need direct content area support in order to be successful. Please note placement is based on administration decisions, and students may be removed from elective courses.
Students must qualify for ESL services and placement is based on standardized test scores and teacher/division head recommendation. ESL Study Skills is designed both as an academic support class well as skill-building course. There will be allotted daily for activities related to individual self-management skill development, such as time management, as well as time for academic support and work completion. Daily activities will be tailored to fit the individual needs of each student.
Formerly Study Skills course. Special Education students (particularly freshmen) need Director/Assistant Director approval to be placed in this class (rubric used for entrance to this class). There is an Executive Functioning curriculum used (take class just 1 time, both semesters).
The CWT Lab is a hands-on, simulated work environment designed to provide students with a comprehensive assessment and training experience in vital employability and functional work skills. Students act as employees and rotate through nearly 300 real-world job tasks across five key career areas using the PAES Lab (Practical Assessment Exploration System)instructional system:
Business/Marketing
Computer/Technology
Consumer/Service
Processing/Production
Construction/Industrial
This course goes beyond task completion by integrating focused career planning and transition skills. Students will actively utilize the data gathered from their PAES Lab performance (job interests, work rate, quality, and soft skills) to identify potential career paths. Key non-lab components include:
Career Background Research: Students will conduct in-depth research on careers that align with the skills and interests discovered in the lab.
Resume Development: Students will learn how to articulate the specific skills and job tasks mastered in the PAES Lab into a professional, job-ready resume.
Workplace Soft Skills: Continuous assessment and instruction on essential soft skills, such as problem-solving, independence, communication, and following complex procedures.
Upon completion, students will have a performance-based assessment summary of their vocational strengths, interests, and accommodations needed, along with a polished resume and foundational knowledge to pursue their post-secondary goals.
The Student Resource Center (SRC) is a program that is designed with one F or with multiple D grades. Each day focuses on a skill that students will need to be successful during their high school years and beyond. After the opening lesson, students transition into a 40 minute highly structured study time where planners are checked and used as their Current Work Plan for the Day.
Daily Lesson Schedule:
1. Monday - Organizing Day
2. Tuesday - Full Study
3. Wednesday - Communication/Social-Emotional Learning
4. Thursday - Full Study
5. Friday - Weekly Grade Tracking, G.P.A. and S.M.A.R.T. Goal Setting
During the structured study time, students receive assistance on their homework and have their grades monitored daily to help keep them on track. They are encouraged to make corrections on homework and prepare to retake tests and quizzes to improve their scores. Once all homework is complete, students are expected to work through an After Homework Checklist to further their student skills. All lessons and activities are done using websites, Google Forms and Google Classroom on student Chromebooks. Students are recommended for this program by their counselors and current teachers. Successful completion of the requirements of the program will result in students earning a .5 elective credit per semester enrolled. Students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with peer tutors for more individualized assistance when available.
As part of District 94's ongoing commitment to providing equitable educational opportunities for all students, we have updated our Wildcat Academy (credit recovery) procedures and documentation. These updates ensure a consistent process for student placement, family communication, documentation, and progress monitoring. Wildcat Academy is designed to help students earn the credits needed for graduation through a district-approved online credit-recovery curriculum. The program provides students with the opportunity to recover credits in courses they have previously taken but did not successfully complete. Participation in Wildcat Academy is intended to support students in recovering credits while maintaining access to educational opportunities and progressing toward graduation. Enrollment in Wildcat Academy must be based on an individualized review of a student's academic needs, progress toward graduation, and educational goals.
