There are a number of reasons why you should consider joining National Honor Society, including:

NHS offers college scholarship opportunities

In 2021, the national organization awarded 600 recipients with money for college through the NHS Scholarship program, including two of our chapter's members, who each walked away for $3,200.

Applications for this scholarship are typically due in November of each year, allowing newly-inducted seniors the chance to apply as well. More information about the scholarship program can be found here.

NHS looks great on a college application or resume

Participation in NHS is a great resume builder that suggests you are among the best students in your class, not only academically, but also with regard to character, service, and leadership.

You can build your leadership skills

At both the national and the chapter level, NHS offers students many chances to get involved with projects and conferences designed to bolster leadership skills. At West Chicago, students can join committees to plan and implement service projects and events, or even run for the executive board as a junior/senior. NHS hosts several LEAD Conferences and State Summits throughout the year, as well as National Student Leadership Week, a period dedicated to honoring those students who serve as leaders in and out of the classroom.

You can meet new friends

Our chapter of NHS is dedicated to bringing students together through group projects and teambuilding events. By joining, you have the opportunity to connect with new people from a variety of backgrounds, some of whom may become lifelong friends.

You can make a difference

In NHS, you have the chance to really impact your school and community through volunteerism. Our chapter is dedicated to service, and impacting the lives of those in need.
