Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. Community High School's chapter of NHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community.
Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These four ideals will be considered as the basis for your selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic performance. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student—one who excels in all areas. Membership is more than an honor: it is an ongoing responsibility and a commitment to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in your selection. Your membership carries a responsibility to the chapter and the national charter. If our chapter is to be effective and meaningful, each member must be involved and commit to the following:
Scholarship: members must maintain 4.50 cumulative GPA or higher
Service: members must complete 20 hours of community service per year (10 per semester)
Participate in chapter non-profit projects and service projects
Volunteer for community-based organizations
Help oversee fundraisers and charity drives
Character: members must demonstrate consistent attendance, behavior, and participation
Exhibit positivity, respect, and integrity
Attend all chapter meetings and induction ceremonies (mandatory)
Comply with Community High School policies and procedures in and out of the classroom
Serve as a positive role model for others
Leadership: members must be involved with planning, organizing, and implementing donation drives, service projects, etc.
Promote leadership building
Attend local, state, & national leadership conferences or NHS.org webinars
Run for executive board positions
Lead sub-committees for chapter service projects
Serve as a positive role model for others
