A: No. If the activity is part of a group you're already involved in - like sports, clubs, or band - it doesn't count. NHS service must go beyond your regular commitments and benefit the broader community.
A: No. Tutoring does not count unless it’s part of a pre-approved leadership project that serves the school or community in a meaningful way.
A: Generally, no. Time spent rehearsing for or participating in musical or theatrical performances does not count toward service hours - including church choir, worship band, holiday services, or school concerts.
The only exception is if the performance is part of a pre-approved charity event that directly benefits a nonprofit cause (e.g., a benefit concert or community fundraiser). These must be cleared with the advisor in advance.
A: No. Volunteer work for family members—even if unpaid—does not count toward your NHS service hours.
A: No. Any activity for which you were paid cannot be used for service hours, even if you donated the earnings.
A: You can log the time it took to complete the event - usually up to 2 hours. If you helped set up or run the event, you may log that time separately.
