Last month, The Scroll ran a Sports Scroll poll in pursuit of discovering Scroller's sports preferences, involvement, and opinions here at GPHS. Scroll Polls are open from the release of the issue and close upon the release of the next one. Here are the results!
This poll had one of the best turnouts in a while, with a whopping 42 people contributing a wide variety of data. This was one of the most answer-option ambitious polls The Scroll has ever had. This Google Form-formatted poll had six questions for Scrollers to answer. One of those questions had over 16 answers! *Keep in mind that Scroll polls are based off of voluntary, convenience sample data and are intended mainly for entertainment use and not professional data analysis. Let's get into the results.

Freshmen make up the most of Scroll poll participants, with 18 contributing their hot takes on the poll. Sophomores are a close runner-up, with 13 people. Next is a tie between juniors and seniors, with five from each grade. No community members contributed, but hey, there was one staff member at GPHS who contributed. Hi, random staff member-- I appreciate you!
At the majority, 15 participants said that they go to one or two GPHS football games a year. Following up, nine people said that they go to the football games, but only the ones considered the bigger ones. Seven people said they go to every single one. Good for you guys! Another seven said that they do not go to them at all. Also, good for you guys! Nine people said that they have only been to one game throughout their whole time at GPHS. Overall, it seems like most poll participants have attended at least one football game. Yay for community involvement!
Now, this question was a beast. I will not go through every category, but I will go over the most significant topics that seem to be poll-takers' favorites. The most favorite sport by poll takers is band and guard, at a total of six people saying it was their favorite! The second most favorited sport by poll-takers was football, with five people voting for it. Third place is a four way tie between volleyball, swimming, basketball, and wrestling-- with four people voting for each respective category. Fourth place goes to both soccer and the people who do not like any sports at GPHS. Someone contributed an additional category to skateboarding. How could I have forgotten? Shoutout to all the skateboarders out there!
Wow! 24 poll takers said that they have no affiliation with the sports programs at GPHS. That is nearly double the 13 people who said that they are a part of a sports program at GPHS. Five people said that they used to be a part of a sports team at GPHS.
This is another question that we let poll-takers have a lot of options and liberty with! A whopping 22 people said they are satisfied with the amount of sports programs at GPHS. 13 people said that they are neutral on the topic or just did not care enough about sports to have an opinion. Seven people said that there need to be additional sports programs! Two people said they wanted a lacrosse team. An additional two people said there should be a men's volleyball team (I'm ALL for it!) Someone thought that GPHS needs a speed-walking team, which is definitely my kind of sport, if you ask me. Last, but not least, someone said that GPHS needs a hockey team! Ah man, I wish. Maybe we can see if the school board can get a budget for an ice rink.
WOAH. Almost a split three-way tie on this one. 14 people said that YES, band is a sport! 15 people said that band is not a sport, and 13 said that there are too many nuances to categorize band into the "sport" label! Fair enough, guys,
