Apollo 13: Is The Movie Worth It?
By: Rilynn Reigles (Managing Editor)
Three astronauts, one goal - Make it to the moon.
Based on the true story, Apollo 13 is a movie full of perseverance and a common passion - science. Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), and Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) all have the same goal: go into space, walk on the moon, and come home.
But when their mission goes haywire, and now they are fighting for the survival they never worried about losing, they must conquer all the fear that bound them and think on the spot to make it home to their families.
A movie showing how to overcome the hardest of challenges and make it through the most complicated complications, it’s a great watch if you're in the mood for a suspenseful and funny show, while also being able to learn something new!

Stanleys. Everyone knows them, everyone loves them. Hydro Jugs, A new popular trend spreading throughout the school. They both include nifty colors and handles, with a wide variety of colors and patterns. But despite their similarities, are the differences so contrast to make one better than the other? In this next article on who would win, we will compare the histories and qualities of the two brands, and then, Fruita Middle School will decide: WHO WILL WIN?
The Hydro Jug was created in 2016 by two brothers, Hayden and Jake Wadsworth. The original idea was for the hydro jug to be a reusable plastic other option than plastic bottles. But in late 2021, the HydroJug stainless steel water bottle came out into the world, and that's when things took off in popularity when it became a popular option for fitness influencers. Wide popularity is spreading throughout Fruita Middle School as well. But now, let's move on to the competition, the Stanley water bottle...
The Stanley water bottle was founded way back in 1913 by William Stanley Jr., when he created the first all-steel vacuum-sealed water bottle. Then in 2016. They launched the Adventure Quencher Travel Tumbler. A trendy reusable water bottle that almost instantly became a hit. Other styles of water bottles were created later on and are used daily by many middle schoolers every day.
Though both are great candidates, some would say otherwise. Mr. Hirsh says Owalas are a better option than either of them! Mrs. Hirsh had a very similar answer.
Mr. Hirsh - "Sick, nasty kids can't cough on my drinking straw."
Mrs. Hirsh - "Straw is safe from sick children."
But now we come to the real questions: Who has better quality? Who has better colors? Or even who has an easier lid to clean? Now YOU will decide: WHO WILL WIN?

1) Nikes- They are a popular shoe whether it is high tops or normal Nike shoes. They are cool, comfortable, popular, and easy to the eye. Comes in many colors and styles.
2) Converse- Converse can be high tops or low tops. They are cute and very comfortable. It can come in many different colors like pink, blue, black, and so much more!! They are awesome.
3) Birkenstocks- A comfy sandal that looks good with socks ( which is hard to look good in socks and sandals, in my opinion). Easy to slip on and off very cute looking. Also there are fake and non-fake, but they look the same, so it's perfect for the looks.
4) Ugg boots- Fake or not, they are both really cozy and warm in the winter. Looks super cute (but don't go in water or snow because that could ruin the leather). Most people prefer comfy, good-looking shoes. Kind of like slippers.
5) Adidas- A well-known brand that shows off the logo, which was cool to show off. Cool, and collective but very interesting at the same time.
If you don't agree with me, I respect that, but thanks for reading.

So for years and years, we have had the classic shorts, but we have gotten to a place where we made them longer, and then we had Jorts. But I will be asking some students what they think about the topic. My first student is Addie Davis, she is a 7th grader, and she said, "I like shorts because Jorts are atrocious. Ava Englehart says, "Although shorts are better, Jorts are making their way back, which I don't want to see." It looks like shorts are the clear win! Almost everyone I interviewed said shorts.

When it comes to chicken sandwiches and combo meals, two restaurants dominate: Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane's. But which one deserves the crown? Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane's are both extraordinary restaurants that capture people's hearts and stomachs. While there is no Raising Cane's in our valley, many of us love Raising Cane's with all of our hearts.
"Love the bread," According to Mr. Williams, a 6th-grade teacher, the bread is what makes Raising Cane's better than Chick-fil-a.
"I like it because it's exclusive. After all, I don't get it a lot, and it's just good." Says Paisley Campos, 7th grader, Raising Canes is better because it is a rare delicacy to travel 4 hours to the nearest Raising Cane's, all the way in Denver.
"Raising Cane's has a lot more to offer, don't get me wrong, Chick-fil-a is really good as well, but Raising Cane's is just better." Says Sophie Bennett, 7th grade, exclaims that Raising Cane's has more potential.
While Raising Cane's packs a punch, Chick-fil-a won the poll with about 3/4 of the 30 participants voting for Chick-fil-a. Although many of the students and teachers alike claim they have never tried Raising Cane's, which makes this poll slightly biased, the vote never lies.
"The fries are so bus, and Chick-fil-a sauce is actual gold!" According to Camille Rotherham, 7th grade, Chick-fil-a has attracted crowds, young and old, while delighting their taste buds with flavors of gold.
"The breading on the chicken is more flavorful, and they have my favorite Lemonade!" Says Mrs. West, Front office, the Lemonade is what makes Chick-fil-a the best.
While Raising Cane's is a close runner-up, Chick-fil-A is the most popular at Fruita Middle School. As previously mentioned, the closest Raising Cane's is 4 hours away, and a good chunk of the FMS population has never tried it. But in Conclusion Chick-fil-a is the dominant restaurant in the chicken industry.

They are both very popular brands of shoes.
Birkenstocks have many different styles from slides to clogs, they have it all! Out of the the 45 people I interviewed half of the people said Birkenstocks. Uggs are less popular because of a few reasons.
Mr.Hurshman says " They are terrible, expensive, and ridiculous. THEY ARE UGG-LY (He asked for that to be in bold.)
Ms.Tara has a different opinion; she states, "More kids get hurt in Birkenstocks."
UGGs are a nice slipper-like shoe with many different varieties.
Cammile Rotherham 7th grader, says, " I love Birkenstocks for many reasons, but my first is they are SOOOOOOOOO cute."
Top 10 Boxing Moments.
By Vada Martens, 7th Grade Fake News Reporter.
It's a sport watched by over 108 million people. An exciting and eventful sport. It's boxing. Here are some moments that changed the way the sport has been seen.
1.Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman
First, we have the Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman fight. The eighth round showed an exhausted Foreman who was unable to defend himself as Ali landed a flurry of punches, culminating in a knockout blow. Ali unleashed a sharp combination of straight right hands, ending with a left-right combo to drop Forman. The match ended up getting the nickname “The Rumble in the Jungle" and has remained a big moment in boxing history.
2. Tyson vs. Douglas (1990)
This match was one of the biggest upsets in sports history, as underdog Buster Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson. Reading up on the interviews and articles that followed up on the event, you can gather an understanding that Mike Tyson was very overconfident, “I didn’t consider Buster Douglas much of a challenge,” Tyson stated, “I didn’t even bother watching any of his fights on video. I had easily beaten everybody who had knocked him out.” He stated. You could describe this as match Tyson sleepwalking into one of the most unpredictable defeats in boxing history. In the 10th round, Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson with a stunning four-punch combination, followed by a right uppercut, and secured one of boxing's biggest upsets. This sequence ended Tyson's unbeaten streak at 37-0.
3. Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier
Ali was known to call himself “The Greatest,” and Frazier, who was given the nickname Joe “Smoking” Frazier, stood at opposite ends of the ring. The highly publicized match gave headlines like "Fight of the Century" and "Thrilla in Manila." As you may know, Frazier secured the victory by landing a famous left hook in the 15th round that knocked Ali down, handing him his first professional loss. A site called The Observer states, “It was the moment the world had been waiting for: the long-awaited showdown between two of the greatest boxers of their time, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.” I found a way to capture the fight perfectly. As you might know, Frazier did end up winning, and despite the public labeling their relationship as a rivalry, Ali showed respect for his opponent, calling Frazier “the greatest fighter of all time next to me.”
4. Floyd Mayweather vs Diego Corrales,
Recommended because of its intensity and perhaps because it was the most dominant, high-level performance of Mayweather’s career. Featuring two undefeated, elite fighters, resulted in a 10th-round TKO after Floyd Mayweather's key winning combination centered on a precise, looping left hook, often set up by rapid-fire jabs and straight right hands to the head and body. Mayweather dropped Corrales five times using superior speed and counter-punching to break down the taller fighter.
5. Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano
This was one of the matches leading up to the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight, and I will say that it was a lot better than the main event. While the match was very brutal and intense, it showed great sportsmanship from both fighters. Live on Netflix on July 11, 2025, Serrano ended up walking away with heavy injuries, including a "gnarly" cut over Serrano's right eye from a headbutt, requiring stitches, and Taylor walking away with a few bruises. This fight had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and is totally worth watching!
6. Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua
This mach was absolutely fantastic! While this wasn't the best representation of boxing, it was very entertaining. Jake Paul has been boxing for 8 years, while Anthony Joshua has been boxing for roughly 19 years. I had the great opportunity to be able to watch this match live on Netflix. Hearing that Joshua was someone who won gold at the 2012 London Olympics, was a two-time unified heavyweight champion, and as of late 2025, had a record of 29 wins (26 KOs) and 4 losses, I was looking forward to seeing Jake Paul get put in his place. In the match, Jake Paul ended up causing multiple tie-ups (Kinda like bringing Joshua into what could be described as a hug) and making the match come to a pause repeatedly. Anthony Joshua defeated Jake Paul by a sixth-round knockout on December 19, 2025, in Miami. The former champion dominated, dropping Paul multiple times and causing him a broken jaw. Both fighters reportedly earned $92 million.
7. Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston
People talked about the upcoming match in 1964 for days before with anticipation and a bit of fear. You see, people thought Ali was going to die in this match due to the way he was talking as if he was taller than the trees (Muhammad Ali has been quoted saying, "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee", "I am the greatest!") and his opponent getting more and more upset by the passing days. So when the match came around, the 2,434 fans screamed with excitement, and that signaled the match to start. The fight was short and a jaw-dropping sight. Liston missed with a left jab, and Ali quickly countered with a fast right hand, knocking out Liston in the first round. Seeing as this was the first fight that Liston had been knocked out in his career, and the second-fastest knockout (in two minutes, 12 seconds) of Ali’s career. The fight was surprising, and I would totally recommend this.
8. Rico Verhoeven vs Jamal Ben Saddik
This is the only kickboxing event in the rating, but it stands out! Jamal Ben Saddik, nicknamed “The Goliath,” went against Rico Verhoeven, nicknamed “The King of the Kickboxing,” and the match was long in the making. The Rivalry was created by Ben Saddik, who won their first encounter in 2011. Verhoeven won the subsequent rematches, including the 2017 GLORY Redemption fight and the 2021 trilogy fight. Verhoeven is known for his intense stamina, technical skill, and high-volume striking. Ben Saddik is known for being a powerful knockout artist with a relentless pressure-fighting style, and when the two came together, it was intense. The match went on for around 10 minutes, and Rico Verhoeven defeated Jamal Ben Saddik by TKO in the 4th round
9. Muhammad Ali vs. Earnie Shavers
This match was brought to my attention by falling down a Muhammad Ali rabbit hole. While Ali was confident and pretty unbeatable, he also showed brains in this match. Ali was badly hurt in the second round but acted as if he was a lot more hurt than he actually was, deceiving Shavers into thinking he didn't have to take a shot, resulting in Shavers not going for a knockout that he could have landed. Shavers continued landing body shots and forced his opponent to move more carefully. Shavers mounted a strong comeback in the 13th and 14th rounds, once again leaving Ali badly hurt, but still standing. The final round was close. Shavers started strong, landing several hard shots, but ended up losing to his opponent.
10. Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson
This was insanely disappointing; the two men circled each other, and only a few good punches. For a young and very popular 29-year-old to call up a 59-year-old who passed his prime 35-37 years ago and challenge him to a fight seems unfair. Jake Paul caused multiple tie-ups that showed that he was scared and didn't want to get hit by Tyson's devastating punches. (Fun fact! Tyson's signature 6-punch combination, designed to overwhelm opponents with speed and raw power to set up a knockout blow.) In the end, Jake Paul won, but only by an anonymous decision.
All in all, this is my opinion, and it's perfectly fine to have your own :)
