Teacher University is VRHS's way of addressing the dropout rate of new teachers. Nationwide, 50% of new teachers leave the profession by year five, if not sooner. Why? The most common reason given was they did not feel supported; they were left on their own to "figure it out."

Our program is designed to provide each new teacher who comes to our school with a dedicated coach for four years. Everyone can benefit from a coach. Think about it. The greatest athletes still have coaches. The purpose of a coach is to help guide the individual to become good at what they do, to recognize opportunities for improvement, and to grow. The bonus...the coach also improves and grows from the experience as well!

Its purpose is to provide new teachers with feedback from their students. Additionally, the survey provided the development team the ability to do some comparative analysis between new teachers and veteran teachers to determine if the program is having a positive impact.
